BE A GIRL
(from Sampson’s Rewilding the Feminine series)
“Be a Girl” illustrates the importance of being distinctive, positive and standing apart
from the crowd. In nature, many male birds and animals are more vibrant in colour,
form and attitude than their female counterparts. The same does not apply to the
Flamingo species. Go Girls!
Sampson has chosen the painterly printmaking technique, Monotype for its intrinsic
sense of motion and unpredictability. “I aim to create a sea of vibrant inks which flow
into one another, settle before printing and ultimately create exciting, unexpected
results”. Sampson’s Monotype compositions capture the innate complexities of
womanhood and the environment, translating them into the visual realm.
