Andre
Clements

André Clements is a South African based artist, working specifically in digital media. He is the founder of ’Johannesburg Arts Discursive, a community of interest in and practice of arts that facilitates and supports discourse around local artistic practice and development across socio-economic strata through meetings and regular life-drawing workshops, etc. He is also a volunteer associate to Southern African Foundation for Contemporary Art (SAFFCA) as well as a Founder member of Riverstone Village (PBO, NPO), democratic self-directed learning community.

Visual art can engage with the complexities of life, technology and culture in a search for harmony that, at best, teases the artist and their audience to look beyond the obvious, to see and potentially to reach beyond convention. I affect painterly qualities through the use of multiple exposure photography and computationally mediated production. In the practice of art I aim to realise a resonance with the supposition that the act of care is the seed of kindness, in the belief that good art facilitates nurturing and extending that kindness to subject and environment. And as kindness is the seed of true justice, to make some however-small  but authentic contribution through my engagement with the necessities of career and citizenship.
