Artist Statement

I was born in an infrmal sett;ement called Pimville. I am the fourth of eight siblings. When I was a few months old, my parents were allocated a house in the far west of Soweto, Naledi. My primary school educaton took place in Naledi.

My artistic ability started at a very young age. due to my poor background, I use to make myself toys using materials like clay, paper, sticks, tin, grass and wire. My drawing skill was noticed by one of my grade four teachers and I had my first commission artwork for her, I earned 20 cents.

I also part took in two additional art forms, dance and music. The turning point for me was when I decided to quit music and practice art on a full time basis. The next great thing that happened for me was a sponsorship to study at the Johannesburg art foundationfor two years and I qualified as a graphic designer, then follwed another three years of study at the Artist Proof Studios in Newtown in Johannesburg. Consecutively i won a mural competition at the Raphael in Sandton. International trips to Cardiff-South Wales, Burnie in Tasmania and Amsterdam in Netherlands ( 6 week residency)
